What is the main point of Waldorf education?
You can find your answer here~
    About Us

How large are your classes?
Our shool have about 28 students in each class from 1st grade to 9th grade.  In high school, each class have about 35 students.

Are you a religious school?
Relax!  We are not religious school, we are just follow the main idea of Anthroposophy to schedule our classes.

How Do the Creative Arts Fit In?
While there is no formal academic curriculum until first grade, the fundamental building blocks of reading, and all the academic skills, are part of the earliest school experience, including nurturing self-esteem, which has been proven to be critical in the development of reading skills, as well as storytelling, songs, verses, and circle games. Waldorf education begins with the oral tradition, followed by writing. In first grade, a story is developed for each letter, and the children work with the shape of each letter in several media. Printed textbooks do not appear in the curriculum and children make their own lesson books. While the timing of the development of reading skills differs from that followed in other schools, it results in a high level of reading comprehension and a deep appreciation of reading.

How Do Waldorf Students Fare Socially?
Because the grade school class teacher works with a group of children over an extended developmental period, the social issues that inevitably emerge between children and between teacher and child are worked out in a healthy and nurturing fashion. Teachers encourage discussion and cultivate the children’s natural respect for others. The classroom resembles a healthy and developing family. As in any healthy family, the best in each individual is nurtured and the importance of human relationships is stressed. As a result, Waldorf students do very well socially. The evidence suggests that they function easily in social situations and are influential members of their peer groups as they move on to non-Waldorf pursuits in college and beyond.

Curriculum

Main Lesson
The Encyclopedia of Education describes Waldorf education as a type of alternative school that focuses on a unique curricular and instructional approach.
In Waldorf world, the school days begin with a long, nonstop lesson, we called it main lesson.  One subject is focus in depth in this period of time.  We have main lesson each day for about 2 hours in the morning.  This allow teacher to develop a wide verity of activities around the subject at hand. The main lesson is not taught from a textbook. The teacher will draw a colored chalk drawing on the board to introduce the theme or subject.
After the day's lesson, we will review everything we had learned the day before.
The curriculum at a Waldorf school can be seen as an ascending spiral: the long lessons that begin each day, the concentrated blocks of study that focus on one subject for several weeks. Physics, for example, is introduced in the sixth grade and continued each year as a main lesson block until graduation.

Foreign Language
We started to learn English when we were 3rd grade.  Before 3rd grade, we sang song in different language.
We never stop learning English till the end of our high school.
We also have lessons for Germany and Japanese but English is our main second language.

Science & Nature
In Cixin Waldorf, we had several main lesson such as electrism, dynamics, chemistry, zoology...etc.  During main lesson, students do experiment, they observe and record.  We let them discover the truth of nature from what they have done, not what teachers had told.  In this way, they will develop the ability of discovering truth in a scientific way.  We also have some science class during the rest of our day, not only main lesson.  So we can give students a better enviorment to learn science and nature.

History & Geography
We had lots of main lessons are related to History and Geography.  In elementary school, we learned mythology around the world; In middle School, we start to learn the history of Taiwan and other countries in this world; When we are high schoo, we study the same topic but deeper than we were.  Such  as Medivial History, Evolution...etc.

Mathmetic
We start learning Mathmetic while we are really young.  We give students a comfortable enviorment learning Math.  We had Math class over 2 hours a week.  We believe our students have the skill of mathmetic.
In main lesson block, we have some subjects are different with other education system but we believe that's what we shall give to our student.  Because of these reasons, our Math teachers are always learning new things, so as our students.
Art & Craft & Handwork
Art is a very important part in Waldorf education, during the drawing, hand craft, students can find their peace land. They had t obe stady, attensive and calm when they are doing handcraft.  They train themselves during this process and this can also connect their hands and feet to their body, brain.  In this way, you can discover that they have more control of their body.
Art classes are also giving our students more chance to try out other things and give them more chance to find out their interest.

Music
Music is also an important part of our education.  In elemantary school we sang song everyday to start our morning.  In high school we had the chance to choose which music lesson we want to be, wuch as the study of musician, flute, traditional Chinese music...etc.

Eurythmy
Eurythmy is an expressive movement art originated by Rudolf Steiner in conjunction with Marie von Sivers in the early 20th century. Primarily a performance art, it is also used in education, especially in Waldorf schools, and – as part of anthroposophic medicine – for claimed therapeutic purposes.
We had two Eurythmy teacher in CiXin Waldorf school.  Every students are request to be in Eurythmy class half year, we take turns to solve the problem of too many students.

Drama

Drama is a really significant part in Waldorf education, students learn how to act on the stage.  They find their way to present themselves infront of audience.  They work as a group to create the script, they make their own custom.  They learn lots of things during this period of time whuch they won't have the chance to know in regular course.

What is Waldorf?

For the Waldorf student, music, dance, and theater, writing, literature, legends and myths are not simply subjects to be read about, ingested and tested. They are experienced. Through these experiences, Waldorf students cultivate a lifelong love of learning as well as the intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual capacities to be individuals certain of their paths and to be of service to the world.
Developed by Rudolf Steiner in 1919, Waldorf Education is based on an understanding of human development that addresses the needs of the growing child. Waldorf teachers strive to transform education into an art that educates the whole child—the heart and the hands, as well as the head.
When you enter a Waldorf school, the first thing you may notice is the care given to the building. The walls are usually painted in lively colors and are adorned with student artwork. Evidence of student activity is everywhere to be found and every desk holds a uniquely created main lesson book.
Another first impression may be the enthusiasm and commitment of the teachers you meet. These teachers are interested in the students as individuals. They are interested in the questions:
How do we establish within each child his or her own high level of academic excellence?
How do we call forth enthusiasm for learning and work, a healthy self-awareness, interest and concern for fellow human beings, and a respect for the world?
How can we help pupils find meaning in their lives?
Teachers in Waldorf schools are dedicated to generating an inner enthusiasm for learning within every child. They achieve this in a variety of ways. Even seemingly dry and academic subjects are presented in a pictorial and dynamic manner. This eliminates the need for competitive testing, academic placement, and behavioristic rewards to motivate learning. It allows motivation to arise from within and helps engender the capacity for joyful lifelong learning.
The Waldorf curriculum is broad and comprehensive, structured to respond to the three developmental phases of childhood: from birth to approximately 6 or 7 years, from 7 to 14 years and from 14 to 18 years. Rudolf Steiner stressed to teachers that the best way to provide meaningful support for the child is to comprehend these phases fully and to bring "age appropriate" content to the children that nourishes healthy growth.

The currulium of high school is helping students to discover their own ability to solve the problem.  The teacher of high school is not having the absolute power, students can bring out their questions and all these questions shall be process by the teacher.  You can understand as most part of class time is use by conversation and discussion.
From 9th to 12th grade, students and teachers are keeping doing experiment.  All the conclusions are come out from observation and shall be confirmed.  During these works teacher shall be helping students to overcome their individual feeling and also try to transmit that the "feeling" of destination is based on the ability of "understand".  On the other hand, is pursing the attitude of "objectivity" in this emotional world.
During the study we require more individual work, such as main lesson book, essay and report.  Especially 12 grades, students have the freedom to choose the topic of their senior project and they shall compete it.
We will discover that the student who is in Waldorf education system when they are in first grade, they have already had the ability to accomplish these works.   That is because they didn't use their intelligent too early and they didn't accept too much abstract knowledge when they were too young.  Their attitude is often clear, not doubtful and mired in minor details.
The goal of our Waldorf high school is to use "actual phenomenon" to teach.  We describe the characteristic of a thing but not the definition.
Anthroposophy is not only respecting the different way to face the life but helping students to expend and recognized the different ways of thinking.
We believe each student has their own giving so we create the school life which is in many aspects.  Students can show their ability in different field.
